Hello, everyone! Happy Wednesday to you! I bet you're wondering what I have in store for you! Obviously it's fitness related, but what is it exactly? I decided that this week I wanted to focus on the general category of fitness..not one type of workout or another. I also wanted to look and see how many handmade items Etsy had that were for fitness. I wasn't disappointed. There were a couple of things I wondered if I would be able to find, but find I did.
I primarily like to do a mixture of pilates, yoga, and cardio (I hate cardio though--nearly kills me). There are a lot of things out there to work on your fitness, but I like to stick to YouTube. There are a variety of workout channels, and you can find pretty much any exercise routine for free. Before we hop into this week's favorites, I wanted to share (for those of you thinking of getting started working out or seasoned veterans) some of my favorite channels that keep me motivated even after a long day of work. My top 3 are (in no particular order) : Blogilates, Tone it Up, and Yoga with Adriene. They all have aspects that I really like. The first two have calendar workouts and their own online communities. They also incorporate various types of workouts into their videos. Yoga with Adriene is probably the best yoga series I've done. I have a thing with voices when it comes to yoga---I can't relax with a lot of yoga YouTubers, but Adriene has a voice that I can relax to. If you're interested, click on the image, and it will take you to their YouTube pages ;)
Now...Let the favorites begin!
Item #1 is from NewWaySigns
I have never been the best at making sure I get enough water...ever. I'm trying to do better now, but I'll tell ya...it's not easy. I have reminders on my phone that go off every 30 minutes that tell me to drink up! I think this water bottle would be something quite useful for those of us who do have problems getting enough water in our systems and also good for those tracking their water intake. The bottles are BPA-free, and the wording is made from outdoor vinyl. It looks like a great motivator, and the color combination is awesome!
Item#2 is from ConquerItCloithingCo
Hahahahaha! I love this shirt!! I absolutely feel like this when I do cardio! Me and cardio have a love hate relationship...mostly hate though. I'm trying to do better at making sure I do some cardio every day to improve my endurance, but sometimes, I really just want to say "nope, " and plop my butt on the couch. This looks like it would be comfortable and cool when working out or just lounging around..Admit it..we all do it!
Item #3 is from thePoleBarn
You can tell I like bright things, can't you? I do like dark things too, but these shorts just screamed "me!" I'm loving the pattern and the color combination. I haven't seen many of these around (especially without the foldover waist). These are one size fits most, so the fit will vary from person to person. They are made to be tight enough to stay up but not so tight that they cut into your skin. I'm sure everyone will like that idea plus the fact that they're made from soft material!
Item #4 is from YetiYoga
I was pleasantly surprised with how many handmade yoga mats I found on Etsy. There were a lot! I really love this one because of the patterns and color combination. It's composed of primarily neutral colors but with a pop of color. I find the color variation quite soothing. You don't have to do yoga to need a mat. Any workout can benefit from it. If you have all hardwood floors, you're going to need something to cushion your body or else you're going to be hurting. This particular mat is 1/4" thick, which is a good thickness, and measures 24" x 72" (measurements are in inches). The makers of this brand of mat have a nice variety of mats of choose from, so if this isn't your cup of tea, they definitely have one that is! (All of their mats are PVC-, latex-, and phthalate-free!)
Item #5 is from TraceyLipman
If you have a yoga mat, you need a way to carry it. You could just shove it into your gym bag, but I think a mat bag would keep it under control a little better. You can wear these as cross-bodies or over one shoulder, so if you prefer one way over the other, you do have a choice. The maker of these mat bags has created a product that no one could be displeased with...she's put in extra options, and I love them! The main pouch is closed with a zipper, and...there's a little zippered pocket on the side for small items! Pockets are always necessary. The strap is padded for comfort if you're walking a long distance to your class or workout spot. The maker has several different patterns and all are home decor/canvas materials. Worried about your mat fitting? Don't be--extra room has been allowed for in case you have a thicker mat.
That's all I have for you all this week! I hope you've enjoyed this fitness edition of Weekly Wednesday! Let me know if you'd like to see more posts like this or if you have any suggestions for future posts! Make sure to go over to your favorite handmade site and show some makers some love.
P.S. Feel free to share, tag, or link ;)
Hello, everyone! It's time for another Weekly Wednesday. This week's theme is...drum roll please....*drum roll*...CONCRETE. I had seen one item made from concrete in my browsing a few weeks ago and have fallen in love with the textures of it, so I looked to see if there were more items in "Etsy-land" that fit the theme. Surprisingly, there are many, many jewelry pieces made from concrete. I picked several because of their uniqueness and because I couldn't stop finding pieces I liked :P Here are some of my favorites!
Item #1 is from ChalkConcrete and is the original piece that started this theme.
I first came across this piece when I was doing the Pantone-themed blog posts. I almost didn't keep this one marked, but it spoke to me. You think of concrete as something very harsh, but this bracelet takes that initial concept and shows the opposite..smoothness. The ombre effect is also awesome!
Item #2 is from StudioCorbelle
This is another neat piece I really liked. It almost has a color-blocking look to it with the silver leaf square at the bottom. I browsed the other items in their shop, and simplicity is key to their designing. I also like that they ensure that each piece they create is "glass-smooth." Awesome concept!
Item #3 is from mongestudio
Cuff time! I like the simple rounded nature of these cuffs. Bold statement with a simple design. The designer of these also has different colors available. The colors are created with pigments, but I think I'd prefer the natural color of the concrete...I do think the other colors would grow on me.
Item #4 is from cerejewelry
I normally absolutely hate the color gold, but I've recently found myself liking items that use it...change in taste as I get older I guess haha. The coloring is subtle here, with only one corner containing it. I love the natural state of the concrete, but I also love that it's been smoothed a bit. The texture here is great!
Item #5 is from HadasShaham
This was the second concrete item to catch my eye. I absolutely love that the square shape differs from the normal round we expect for rings! That and the detail from the sterling silver the concrete is cast in make this ring stunning. The monochromatic color scheme also makes it perfect for any outfit needing a statement.
Item #6 is from BEREZKI
This is probably the most interesting necklace I've seen that utilizes concrete. The length of each of the "icicles" is varied but provides a balance. In addition to the varied length of the icicles, the glass bead's placement is another piece to the balance puzzle. The smoothness is achieved by sanding and sealing. I love it!
Item #7 is from frauklarer
First, let me say I love these shapes. I had to make paper "crystals" in high school for my chemistry class, and one of the challenges she had for us was to identify an unknown crystal (later I identified it as an isododecahedron), so I definitely relate to these shapes! It also reminds me of the base design of the Everlasting Gobstoppers from the 70s version of Willy Wonka for those of you who prefer that version over the new one (I personally like the 70s version because the new one is creepy). Again, enough of my rambling. These are just neat--that's all there is to it--AND the simplicity. Many rounds of applause to this fellow crafter for the design and the walks down memory lane I just had!
Item #8 is from KoncreteKat
I never in my life would have thought about using concrete in earrings, but these have changed my mind. I love, love, love the simplicity of these earrings, and the air bubbles add to that nature and create charm. Gorgeous design!
Now that I've gone through each of these, I really may have to consider purchasing some lovely concrete jewelry...perhaps when a better paycheck comes around *sigh*, but it doesn't hurt to look and drool does it?
I hope you've enjoyed this edition of Weekly Wednesday. Like it, share it, or link it! Get the word out about how great concrete jewelry can be! Now, go show your favorite artisans some love!
Until next time,
Hello, everyone. It's Weekly Wednesday again, and this week I've got some neat items to share with you! I know it's nearing the end of summer, but there's still time for that beach vacation (or lake weekend). None of us want to feel like a pack mule at the beach, so I've found 5 essential items that you need to bring with you (not including food/drink) for the ultimate beach (lake) experience.
Item #1 is fromTheFoxAndTheMermaid
Tired of the ordinary rectangle beach towel? I've always been looking for a large beach towel, but I want it to look a little different from what you normally think of when you hear "beach towel." This summer, I've been seeing more and more "roundies"--round beach towels. These are definitely unique and multi-purpose pieces. They are made of 100% cotton, not terry cloth, so they are very lightweight. The diameter is 78 inches, so you have a lot of space on this towel. As far as it being multi-pupose, you can use it as a beach towel, a wall hanging, and throw for your bed, a picnic blanket, etc. The options are endless!
Item #2 is from WhiskeyRunCo
One thing each of us needs is sunscreen! Sure, it's a hassle to put on, but it protects your skin. You can't get another skin, so protect what you've got! This SPF 20 sunscreen is a blend of lavender and carrot seed oils (both have natural UV blocking properties), coconut oil, cocoa butter, aloe, and non-nano size zinc oxide particles (prevents absorption into the bloodstream via the skin). This is safe for use on the face, so go ahead and slather it on! Smell GOOD and know you're saving your skin!
Item #3 is from hpfrosting
Every beach-goer knows that a beach tote is an absolute necessity....unless you're a guy (but it's still necessary because you most likely put everything in your lady's bag, right?). This bag is a great size, and you can fit a lot inside--multiple large towels, books, etc. It's even very useful after a beach trip, so you're going to get multiple uses out of it--take it to the gym, market, or play date. I'm really loving the print of this bag--the colors go great together--and the fabric is indoor/outdoor, so the sun won't harm the bag's brightness. The bottom is a water-resistant canvas, so you'll never have to deal with the entire bag and contents being went from sitting it down for "just a second." The maker has several different patterns to choose from, so if this isn't your style, check out her shop and I'm sure you'll find one that is!
Item #4 is from jahannamartinez
Does anyone else have major hair issues when at the beach? I can't do anything with mine other than putting it into a pony tail or a knot and even then my hair gets into my face. I saw this and thought it'd be something nice to have at the beach to keep your hair out of your face and also to add a little bit of style when your hair isn't at the top of its game. This head band is another item you can use at places besides the beach. Wear it to the gym, outside, or just to accent a casual look! The bands are adjustable and will fit any head size. You can also change up the placement of the bands, and, voila!, you have a second head band. You can wear it with the individual bands spread apart or right together. However you decide to wear it, you'll be stylish.
Item #5 is from ShopWUDN
A great thing to have at the beach is music, and today, it's easier than ever to get music out there without having to haul a huge stereo (and trying to keep the antenna properly placed) or find a beach with a band playing (which is probably a super-crowded beach). Now, all you need is a smartphone and a bluetooth speaker. This speaker has an outer case made of cedar--the color is gorgeous! It's very simple and aesthetically pleasing. A full charge takes around 3-4 hours and lasts 5-8 hours depending on the volume level. It fully supports speaker phone if you need to make a call on the beach, but really, go to relax. Relax and listen to music and the waves on your much needed vacation time!
That's all I have for you today, everyone! Enjoy this last part of summer and stay safe at the beach (or lake). Catch ya next week!
